Last June many of the towns wells started to run dry as a result of the severe drought conditions in the area. Many of the poorer residents could not afford to buy the water they needed for drinking and other daily uses and so Donna, whose well had also run dry, began buying cases of bottled water and distributing them to those who needed it. As demand grew, and her popularity garnered national attention, donations from major companies and the county brought much needed help, and delivering water to her neighbors started to became part of Donna's almost daily routine. Often the only source of drinkable water to the families, the arrival of Donna’s pickup truck was a welcome sight as she and her sometime assistant, a local teen named Matt, unloaded cases of water and piled them in the front yard. Of the 7,300 residents of East Porterville, over 1000 have run out of water. Tulare County, California, USA
